Living Room Design - English Tudor, Long Grove, IL

Owner Project Requirements (OPR)

The client had an idea but didn’t know how to translate it into the design. The concept was to create a space where people could meet and socialize in a cozy yet interesting and visually exciting space. “When I thought of the type of space, I thought of the author, Gertrude Stein, and her salon in Paris which was a mecca for artists and writers in the 1920s. Gertrude Stein wrote, “A rose is a rose is a rose…” and other convoluted poetry and prose. Her salon was the hangout for people like Picasso, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and other notables. I told Kobby, let’s create a salon-like that!” ~ K.H.O

Investment Up to $50,000

Design Thinking: Feature a colorful palette, tasteful and characterful motifs – allusions to socialism; space must be a storyteller. Use the property in most ways unexpected by marrying the exterior architecture with interior elements. Apply a rhythmic approach to embrace guests from entry as they transition through space. The living and dining rooms must communicate an exceptional sense of style: classical, luxurious, with exquisitely made furniture and objets d’art.

Effect: Traditional Elegance
